The fall of 2016 marks the start of a new universal pre-K law in Vermont, Act 166. The purpose of Act 166 is to allow all children to start school armed with the skills necessary for future success, and a big part of that success starts with a high quality early education program. This funding (the equivalent of ten hours of preschool education per week) becomes available for families of all three, four and five year old children not attending kindergarten. Under Act 166, public schools must provide access to early education by either providing programs directly in the schools or by partnering with existing qualified community-based programs like Spring Hill School. Starting in the 2016-2017 school year families with children attending Spring Hill School will see this funding cover the first ten hours per month of tuition (or approximately $300/month or $3,000/year).
